One of my long-time favourite designers is Swedish all-rounder Stig Lindberg. If you’re also a fan of Scandi design from the 50′s & 60′s, you’re sure to know some of his things, some of which are still in production. You must, for instance, recognise the Bersa design (below) – possibly his best-loved ever – but this guy turned his hand to just about everything, including textiles, book illustrations, ceramics… and even a TV!
One of my favourite designs of all time is the in-store gift wrap design (above) that Stig Lindberg made for Gustavsberg in the 1950′s. I’ve always wondered whether he made it as a paper cut, but can’t seem to find out all that much about it.
After keeping a pic of this design on my pinboard for ages, I finally decided to do something with it in the ‘inspired by’ category, incorporating a winning combo of three of my own enthusiasms: papercutting, Stig Lindberg, and succulents in pots.
What’s next? It’ll take a while, but watch this space, and in a couple of months you’ll see how my Stig Lindberg-inspired papercut becomes something else super cool.
